We are only a week away from iPhone 14 announcement, and the rumors were more intense than ever. Early on, we’ve heard that Apple wants to replace the current notch at the top of the screen with something else. With all this in mind, we want to know what is your favorite solution for a possible notch replacement on iPhone 14 Pro?
With the iPhone X, Apple had to find a solution to place the front camera and Face ID sensor on the front of the phone because it no longer has large bezels. This is how the company “found” the notch, which is the cutout at the top of the screen where all of these sensors, plus the microphone and speaker, are housed.
The notch is certainly the identity of the new era of the iPhone after years of devices with a Home button. Behind the scenes, however, Apple has considered ways to reduce or ditch the notch. Last year, the company relocated the iPhone 13’s top speaker to make it a smaller notch, but it’s still there.
Notch replacement for iPhone 14 Pro
Moving on to the iPhone 14 rumors, early reports suggest that the This year’s Pro model will have a punch-hole front camera, which has become quite popular among Android smartphones. However, Face ID has a lot of sensors, and hiding it under the screen will be a difficult task. That’s how rumors began to show pill-shaped cuts.
Then, renders and leaked pieces suggest that replacing the notch would actually be a somewhat different solution: instead of a single pill-shaped cutout, the iPhone 14 Pro will have a combination of that cutout for the Face ID sensor plus a punch-hole camera. That was until this morning, when a new rumor changes everything.
This new report claims that Apple will make two separate cuts in the iPhone 14 Pro’s screen look like a single cut. The information was then corroborated by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and 9to5Mac independent source. Through a software trick, the entire cut area will look like a “one-wide pill-shaped cut”.
On top of that, Apple plans to move the privacy icon that shows when the camera and microphone are in the cutout area as if they were real LEDs. The new snippet will also allow the company to change the layout of some system applications to take more advantage of that area.
It’s worth noting that the rumors are pretty clear about only the iPhone 14 Pro models getting the new screen design. The regular iPhone 14 model is expected to have the same notch as the iPhone 13.
