A new rumor related to Microsoft’s Xbox platform will excite those who used to play games on the Xbox 360. For a long time, Microsoft has been very focused on ensuring that the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles will backward compatible with titles from the original Xbox and Xbox 360. And while this backwards-compatible library is pretty deep on current-generation platforms, Microsoft has stopped short of trying to bring new titles to the service. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like this will happen much longer.

According to the presenters of the XboxEra Podcast Nick Baker, having previously had accurate inside information regarding Xbox in the past, Microsoft could be planning one last batch of backwards compatible games to bring to the Xbox Series X and Xbox One platforms. In particular, Baker notes that these games will be associated with Activision Blizzard and will be coming soon Microsoft’s acquisition of publisher. While Baker didn’t state which games might join the compatible Xbox library, it did say that Microsoft’s ownership of Activision Blizzard would make licensing easier, which is why new titles would be added in the first place.

One group of games that Baker stressed likely won’t be part of this new Xbox compatible addition are those related to Marvel. During the Xbox 360 era, Activision published several games such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Spider-Man: The Shattered Dimension, and much more. Unfortunately, it looks like these games are not playable on Xbox hardware at this time due to licensing issues.

Based on what we’ve seen from Microsoft in the past with new additions to the compatible library, it looks like Activision games from the Xbox 360 era will most likely join the ranks. That way, if you played certain Activision games on your Xbox 360 that day, those titles will immediately become easier to revisit.

Are you excited to hear that more classic Xbox games will soon be available on Xbox Series X and Xbox One? And which games, in particular, do you expect to join the catalog compatible with previous versions? Let me know in the comments or message me on Twitter at @MooreMan12.
