AMD is rumored to be launching three new Zen 4 V-Cache CPUs, Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D & Ryzen 7 7800X3D at CES 2023.

AMD Prepares Three Zen 4 V-Cache CPUs, Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D & Ryzen 7 7800X3D, For CES 2023, Alleged Rumors

The latest rumors about the Zen 4 V-Cache part come from Greymon55 who has submitted a cryptic tweet referring to the Ryzen 7000 3D V-Cache CPU. According to the tweet, three Ryzen 3D V-Cache CPUs have been rumored, Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D & Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Based on the SKU, it looks like AMD will be targeting the high-end market with the V-Cache chips & mainstream V-Cache parts likely to be on sale at retail later.

We don’t know what kind of stack of SRAM (3D V-cache) will be featured in the Zen 4 section. The latest generation Zen 3 V-Cache processors like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D feature a single Zen 3 CCD with 64MB LLC stacked vertically on top of the mold. For the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, this may also be true as it will feature a single Zen 4 CCD with 8 cores and 16 threads. However, Ryzen 9 7950X3D & Ryzen 9 7900X3D will be featuring two Zen 4 . CCDs because they pack 12 cores and 16 cores respectively. We can’t say for sure if AMD will have one CCD stacked with the 3D cache stack or if both Zen 4 CCDs will be stacked. Also whether AMD keeps the 64 MB cache stack or changes it remains to be seen.

However, if AMD used the existing 64 MB SRAM (3D V-Cache) stack, we would get up to 104 MB of cache on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, up to 140 MB of cache on the Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and 144 MB. MB cache on Ryzen 9 7950X3D. That’s a 2.6x improvement over the Ryzen 7 7700X, an 85% improvement over the 7900X, and an 80% improvement over the Ryzen 9 7950X. More importantly, it looks like AMD ordered the 7800X SKU for the 3D variation.

As for what this means for performance gains in general, especially in gaming, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D has proven that 3D V-Cache is a very worthy upgrade in AAA titles & Ryzen 7000 Non-V-Cache CPU is close to or exceeds the gaming performance of the 5800X3D. With 3D V-Cache, on average we can see an additional 10-15% across various titles. As for workload performance, the chip may do the same as the existing parts but may come with a lower clock speed. AMD did say that future V-Cache CPUs might allow overclocking and we saw with the 5800X3D allowing some expansion for overclocks and undervolts.

The leaker further stated that the announcement of the AMD Ryzen V-Cache part is expected at CES 2023 so we will have to wait 4-5 months before we can see it in action. AMD has previously stated that we’ll see the V-Cache parts in action later this year but it looks like they’ve finished CES 2023 for now.
