Physique present in Memphis as police seek for kidnapped runner Eliza Fletcher

Police said Monday that bodies had been found in southern Memphis, the area they were searching for Eliza Fletcher. kidnapped teacher while jogging Friday morning. The person who died has not been identified and no cause of death has been determined, Memphis police said.

Police said the body was found at 5:07 p.m. local time.

Authorities said Fletcher, 34, was jogging around 4am on Friday when a man approached him and forced him into a dark SUV after a brief struggle, which was caught on surveillance video. Fletcher was reported missing when he did not return home that morning.

Memphis Police said in a written statement that they believe Fletcher was seriously injured in the abduction.

On Saturday, 38 years old Cleotha Abston arrested in connection with Fletcher’s disappearance. He is currently charged with kidnapping and tampering with evidence.

Bria Jones of CBS affiliate WREG-TV reported Monday that there was a large police presence in the area “very close to a landfill towed from outside Cleo Abston’s brother’s apartment” on Sunday.

Fletcher is a junior kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School, a private all-girls school in Memphis. “We join the Fletcher and Wellford families in praying for Liza’s safe return,” the school wrote in a statement facebook post Saturday.
