Meghan Markle delivers first British speech since throwing the crown

Meghan Markle made her first public address in Britain since leaving her royal status and flying to the Hollywood Hills more than two years ago.

The Duchess of Sussex delivered the keynote address on Monday at One Youth World Summitan annual event for young activists “to come together to face the greatest challenges facing humanity.”

Hubby Prince Harry watched as Markle spoke about gender equality at the event’s opening ceremony. She touched on her self-doubt as “the girl from ‘Suits'” while attending the same summit in 2014, two years before the tabloids exploded with stories about her and Harry’s dating life.

Markle had a starring role in seven seasons of the American legal drama “Suits” from 2011 to 2018.

“I was allowed in, to pull up a chair at the table,” Meghan said at the big Manchester event. “I was so overwhelmed by the experience, I think I even kept my little paper placemark with my name on it.”

“Just evidence – proof that I was there, proof that I belonged, because actually, I wasn’t sure that I belonged,” he said.

Markle and Harry traveled to the event from London by train. The couple reportedly live in Windsor, just half a mile away from Prince William and his family, although the royals are reported to have made a there are no plans to contact the exiled duo.

William was worried that a private conversation between him and his brother would happen raised to the mediaas some have done in previous shocking interviews, according to Harry biographer Angela Levin.

Markle and Harry have rarely traveled to the UK since stepping down as senior royals in 2020. They appeared at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June but leave before the celebration ends. They also make brief appearances at thanksgiving services.

Their next stop will be Germany for Tuesday’s event counting down to the 2023 Invictus Games. Harry is scheduled to deliver a speech at a charity ceremony in London on Thursday.
