The source behind the latest wave of information is responsible for bomb leak earlier this week who claims the iPhone 14 Pro‌’s screen cutout will appear to have one unified “pill” at the top of the screen instead of two distinct cutouts.

According to new information from a source shared exclusively with MacRumor, iOS 16The Lock Screen interacts directly with the always-on iPhone 14 Pro‌ screen, featuring integration with notifications and depth effects and wallpaper colors.

The source shared several images allegedly based on information from Apple that depict some of the iPhone 14 Pro software changes on the iPhone MacRumor forum and has since provided more information. iPhone 14 Pro‌ seems to be featuring the following features and specific changes:

  • The Lock Screen wallpaper background with depth effect will be removed and completely darkened when the display is in always-on mode, while the foreground will be dimmed. In addition, the foreground will be colored with the feature edge color and highlight depending on the user’s customization.
  • Widgets will be visible on the always-on screen but will fade in and out at defined intervals, invisible to the user, to prevent OLED burn-in.
  • The content displayed on the always-on Lock Screen and the fully-lit Lock Screen must be configured in the same way and cannot be separated, meaning they must share the same wallpaper, color choices, fonts, and widgets. The core visual elements of the always-on display itself can be adjusted independently.
  • Notifications will be part of the always-on iPhone 14 Pro‌ display experience, and just like on a normal Lock Screen, notifications will scroll from the bottom one at a time and stay smooth for 10 seconds. Once the screen is awakened, the notification will move from the bottom and proceed to user-defined settings for how notifications are displayed on the Lock Screen (such as a count, stack, or list).
  • Apple may also allow users to enable an always-on notification counter at the bottom of the screen.

Apple is also said to be planning to release an update, such as iOS 16.0.1 or 16.1, soon after the iPhone 14 Pro‌ launch that will include a fix for an issue with the device’s always-on display and wallpaper. While the company is now in the final stages of developing the feature, it is reportedly still finding bugs and randomizing software engineers from different teams, including the Apple Watch, to finalize the always-on display experience before launch.

The iPhone 14 Pro‌ lineup is expected to be revealed in Apple’s “Far” Event on Wednesday, September 7 iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro‌ most likely available for pre-order on Friday, September 9, and started arriving to customers on Friday, September 16.
