A federal judge in Florida told the Justice Department on Saturday to provide him with more specific information about the secret records that were deleted from the former President. Donald Trump Florida estate and said it was his “original intention” to appoint a special master in this case.

The two-page order from US District Judge Aileen Cannon signals that she is inclined to grant requests from Trump’s attorneys, who this week requested the appointment of an independent special master to review records retrieved from Mar-a-Lago and identify any. may be protected by executive privileges.

The judge scheduled a hearing Thursday to discuss the matter further. A special master is often a former judge.

Cannon also directed the Justice Department to file under seal with a more detailed description of the material taken from Trump’s property. Lawyers for the former president have complained that investigators did not disclose enough information to them about what specific documents were removed when agents executed a search warrant on August 8 looking for classified documents.

The appointment of a special master, if that happens, is unlikely to significantly affect the direction of the Justice Department’s investigation, although it is possible that an outside review of documents could slow down the investigation.
