Oklahoma Metropolis Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren misses the 2022-23 NBA season with a leg damage sustained in a pro-am basketball recreation

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren will miss the 2022-23 season due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, the team announced Thursday.

Holmgren, overall pick No. 2nd in this year’s NBA draft, injured Saturday defensively LeBron James on a quick break during a pro-am game in Seattle.

“Of course, we are disappointed with Chet, especially given the excitement he has about playing alongside his team-mates this season,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. “We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community. One of the things that impressed us most during the Chet selection process was his determination and focus. We hope that the same tenacity will carry him through this period of time in which we work together. and support him throughout his rehabilitation.”

Holmgren was one of a number of NBA players participating in the CrawsOver Pro-Am event, along with James, Jayson TatumNo. 1 choice overall Paolo Banchero, Dejounte Murray and Aaron Gordon.

The match was canceled in the second quarter due to field conditions. An unusually humid day in Seattle combined with full crowds led to repeated wet spots and condensation.

The 7-foot-1, 195-pound Holmgren averaged 14.0 points and 8.4 rebounds in five games for the Thunder earlier this year in the Las Vegas Summer League.
